Andy and Lana Wachowski are hacking that online matrix better known as Netflix.

The streaming giant announced it's ordered up Sense8, a 10-episode sci-fi thriller from the minds of sibling filmmakers and Babylon 5 writer-producer J. Michael Straczynski, which it plans to premiere in late 2014.

The series is Netflix's latest high-profile stab at original content following in the footsteps of David Fincher's political drama House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey, and the newly resurrected cult comedy Arrested Development. And like those endeavors, the company plans to make all of Sense8's installments available to members to watch instantly on its service all at once.

Netflix is touting the show as "a gripping global tale of minds linked and souls hunted" and marks the Wachowskis' first stab at television.

"Several years ago, we had a late night conversation about the ways technology simultaneously unites and divides us, and out of that paradox Sense8 was born," the duo said in a statement.

The Wachowskis, of course, are best known for their groundbreaking film, The Matrix, and its two sequels as well as more recently their ambitious epic, Cloud Atlas, which they codirected with Tom Tykwer. They're due to start filming next month another sci-fi adventure called Jupiter Ascending with Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis.

Straczynski made his mark on the small screen as the mastermind behind the space opera Babylon 5, which aired for five seasons in the mid-'90s on the now defunct broadcast channel PTEN.
