Bobby Brown is ready to start doing his time.

The beleaguered singer surrendered Wednesday in a Van Nuys, Calif., court to begin serving his jail sentence after pleading no contest last month to driving under the influence and to driving on a suspended license stemming from his October arrest, E! News has confirmed.

The 44-year-old R&B crooner was sentenced to 55 days in the clink. In addition, Brown has been placed on summary probation for 48 months for the first change and 36 months for the second count, and will be required to complete an 18-month alcohol program, among other stipulations.

However, the deputy city attorney who prosecuted the case told E! News last month that he anticipates that Brown will likely only serve a tenth of his 55-day sentence due to a policy of early release as a result of jail overcrowding.

Whitney Houston's ex-hubby was busted on Oct. 24 after a police cruiser spotted Brown's vehicle weaving erratically through traffic near the city of Tarzana, Calif. Officers subsequently discovered that the singer was behind the wheel without his court-mandated dashboard Breathalyzer.
