TLCGLAAD, for one, doesn't think Josh Duggar should be going to work for the Family Research Council.
"Family Research Council is without a doubt one of our country's most dangerous hate groups, led by the most anti-gay man in America, Tony Perkins," GLAAD president Herndon Graddick told E! News Friday in response to news that the 19 Kids and Counting star is in talks for an executive position with the FRC, whose stated mission is to "advance faith, family and freedom in public policy and the culture from a Christian worldview."
"'Families' are formed only by ties of blood, marriage, or adoption, and 'marriage' is a union of one man and one woman," continues the mission statement on the FRC's website. The organization's latest missive is a disappointed response from Perkins to Republican Sen. Rob Portman's about-face on his former anti-gay marriage stance, prompted by his son coming out as gay.
"Not only has Perkins compared gay people to terrorists, he also supports the ludicrous idea that gay youth should be subjected to harmful therapies that aim to make them straight," Graddick said. "Unlike the Duggars, Perkins isn't about family values, he's about anti-gay hate."
A spokesman for the FRC confirmed that they have met with Josh Duggar, the eldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and a father of two (with one on the way) himself, about an executive position with their lobbying arm, FRC Action.
"We greatly appreciate Josh and the Duggar family for their devotion to the pro-family movement," J.P. Duffy, VP of communications for the FRC, told E! News. "This is why we have talked to Josh about the position. We have talked to him as well as other candidates but no decision has been made."
Duggar, 25, participated in ProLifeCon, the FRC's annual pro-life social-media forum, back in January.
