Beyoncé was on a countdown to reclaiming her pre-pregnancy figure—and fast.

The pop star opens up to Shape magazine about the race to lose the baby weight she had gained while pregnant with Blue Ivy—a particular challenge given that the Grammy winner, who put on 57 pounds, had booked her first post-baby concert just mere months after she and hubby Jay-Z welcomed their daughter.

"I gained 57 pounds when I was pregnant. I didn't have a lot of time to lose the weight, because I scheduled a show three months after I gave birth, which I would never do again," she says in a behind-the-scenes video on her upcoming cover story for the mag, per an excerpt in the Huffington Post.

"I'm not a person that is naturally very thin," she adds. "I am a person that has to work at keeping my body in shape." That regimen, she reveals, included a fitness routine filled with lots of dance workouts.

The 31-year-old Grammy winner also acknowledged that the most important part of losing the baby weight was understanding what worked best for her body.

"Not everyone is supposed to be the same," she says. "Be healthy and take care of yourself, but be happy with the beautiful things that make you, you."

Beyoncé is currently gearing up for her upcoming Mrs. Carter Show World Tour, which will travel through 42 cities in North America and Europe and kicks off on April 15 in Belgrade, Serbia.
