Look out, couturiers! Printers—yes, printers—may take over your work.

That's right, on Monday night, Dita Von Teese hit New York's Ace Hotel in the world's first 3-D printed dress. Never shy, she took to Twitter to share the futuristic frock's significance.

"History tonight @acehotel NYC: 1st ever #3D dress," the burlesque dancer gushed.

Designer Michael Schmidt created the groundbreaking gown by using 3-D rendering technology and turning to printing company Shapeways to physically create the dress using powdered nylon. Post-printing, Schmidt spruced up his design with a glossy coat of black paint and 12,000 Swarovski crystals.

The result? A voluminous-sleeved, mesh-like dress that hugged Teese's enviable curves perfectly.

Schmidt has also designed for gals known for their outrageous fashion sense, like Lady Gaga and Cher, so we can't wait to see what other edgy designs he creates with the help of his trusty 3-D printer!
