Rumors about the two ignited after an Australian magazine claimed that they appeared to be more than just friends at an Oscars afterparty.
"@SamanthaBarks apparently we are an item according to Aussie magazines," Crowe tweeted yesterday. "sorry about that Sammi."
Barks, who made her movie debut playing Éponine in the hit musical movie, also tweeted, "Rumours are hilarious and not true! #funnyoldworld :)"
Crowe, 48, and Barks, 22, were also photographed in Los Angeles shortly after the Oscars working out together and then enjoying some lunch.
At the time, the Gladiator star tweeted, " work out with @SamanthaBarks 4km walk, 30 mins elliptical, 4 min prone hold, shoulder routine, lats,bench,turkish stand."
In the last couple of weeks, Crowe also denied a report that he was dating singer Natalie Imbruglia.
"I am not having an affair with nor am I dating Natalie Imbruglia," he tweeted. "She has been a friend for years. No flirting, no whispers, total BULLS--T."
Crowe has yet to comment on reports that he and his wife Danielle Spencer have called it quits. Barks is said to be dating hunky Welsh television host Matt Johnson.
