After tabloid reports surfaced claiming Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will have elephants—yes, elephants—at their wedding, PETA has since fired back in defense of the duo, insisting wildlife will not be present at the couple's impending nuptials.
"It would be out of character for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt—a couple who clearly values family and has donated millions to safeguard land and wildlife in Africa—to have elephants at their wedding ceremony," the animal-rights organization said in a statement. "They probably realize that elephants used as props at events and in other forms of entertainment are separated from their families, kept chained most of their lives, carted from town to town, and beaten in training so that they perform on cue."
Rumors started swirling after Brad and Angie's supposed florist spoke with tabloids, claiming the couple will have eight elephants (for all eight members of the Jolie-Pitt clan) as well as Shetland ponies at the ceremony.
Not so, says PETA, who insist the do-gooding couple would never subject wildlife to such treatment:
"They know that sensitive, family-oriented animals deserve to live in peace. PETA wishes the couple all the best in their life together," the statement concluded.
The engaged power-couple have yet to reveal many details surrounding their upcoming "I do's" although it's rumored they will wed at their Chateau Miravel estate in the South of France.
