Tilda Swinton, Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld has spoken!

The head of Chanel has selected the fashion-forward Tilda Swinton to star in the brand's Metiers d'Arts Paris-Edimbourg collection campaign.

Lagerfeld unveiled the Scottish-influenced collection last December at Scotland's Linlithgow Palace, where models strutted their stuff in tons of tartan and even kilts.

"Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Edimbourg collection," Lagerfeld said in a statement. "She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance."

Swinton's embraced an envelope-pushing style throughout her film career, playing up an androgynous style and wearing avant garde looks on the red carpet, so it comes as no surprise the trendsetting Lagerfeld would seek her out. Plus, her model-like height—the statuesque star stands at 5 feet 11 inches!—probably doesn't hurt either.

He even photographed the star himself, this time taking to a French castle near Chantilly. Look out for the campaign shots this May.

Until then, tell us what you think of Tilda as the face of Chanel in the comments!
