As if winning an Oscar wasn't enough, Adele can also lay claim to the fact that her 21 sold more worldwide than any other album in 2012. (By the way, 21 did the same thing in 2011, the year it was released.)

According to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), 21 sold 8.3 million copies last year.

Adele's nearest competition?

That would be Taylor Swift, whose Red sold 5.2 million copies globally.

Meanwhile, Swift's ex, Harry Styles, and his fellow One Direction dudes had the third and fourth best-selling albums with Up All Night and Take Me Home, which sold 4.5 million and 4.4 million respectively.

As for best-selling single, that honor goes to Carly Rae Jepsen's smash "Call Me Maybe," which sold 12.5 million. The Gotye hit "Somebody That I Used to Know" was second with 11.8 million copies sold, and PSY's "Gangnam Style" was third with 9.7 million.
