In what has become a fine Oscars tradition, the stars brought out the bling at the 2013 annual award show. And while nearly every gal glittered in spectacular jewelry, a few leading ladies stood out thanks their interesting spin on sparklers.
Take the lovely Sandra Bullock, who reached for a show-stopping $380,000 Harry Winston brooch, but decided to pin it to her hair rather than her elegant Elie Saab gown. Tucked behind Bullock's ear, the diamond cluster brooch, which was based on an archival design using the legendary Harry Winston's signature clustering technique of packing various shaped diamonds together, looked somewhat like an ear cuff. Who knew a bedazzled brooch could pull double duty as a pretty barrette?
Salma Hayek also has us reconsidering another item in our jewelry boxes: the choker. The curvaceous beauty decorated her darling updo with Cindy Chao's Maple Leaves choker from the designer's Four Seasons collection. Since a necklace worn in the traditional way would have overpowered the embellished neckline of Hayek's Alexander McQueen dress, we love the fact that she found a creative way to incorporate a bit of bling to her look.
And speaking of creative, Jennifer Lawrence wore a long Chopard necklace backwards! The delicate strands popped perfectly against the Silver Linings Playbook star's back, and made for an original style statement that we'll be trying out with our long necklaces.
