The circumstances surrounding Mindy McCready's tragic death on Sunday are still coming to light.

But the late country star's family and friends want to clear up reports that her Heber Springs, Ark., home was a filthy mess prior to her apparent suicide.

People quotes a police source as saying McCready's house "reeked, food was left out and dog feces were everywhere. Bottles full of prescription pills sat on the nightstand and in the bathroom…"

Everything we know about Mindy McCready's apparent suicide

But Shawn Carnes, a close friend of McCready's, spoke to E! News on behalf of the singer's family, saying the report is "absolutely not true."

"She was not living in filth. She is a clean person. Her lifestyle was not living in filth by any means," Carnes said. "The house was clean when we were there. She had a housekeeper come in and clean regularly as well."

Mindy McCready had four possible suicide attempts before she actually took her life

"It is nonstop with two kids but it wasn't filthy," he added, referencing McCready's sons Zane, 10 months, and Zander, 6. "We all—including Mindy—kept that house as immaculate as we could."

Although her children were in foster care, Carnes said other family members had been at her home up until the morning of her death.

Local authorities have not responded to E! News' calls for comment.

A preliminary autopsy report revealed McCready committed suicide by way of a single gunshot to the head, although police told E! News her death is still an "ongoing investigation."
