Watch: Shawn Carnes on Mindy McCready

The late star will be fondly remembered by her peers.

Just a couple of days before Mindy McCready took her life in what authorities say appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a friend of the country singer, Shawn Carnes, shared kind words about the star to E! News.

"Mindy is strong-willed. I think she's strong enough to do anything," Carnes said on Feb. 15, adding that when it came to past relationships, "She's had some characters, but David [Wilson] was different."

Carnes talked about McCready's time with Wilson, who died in January of a possibly self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Just a great-looking guy. Seemed like someone who could conquer," Carnes said. "And seeing them together...was really cool. I like seeing Mindy happy with someone...[She] is the most giving and caring person that I've met. She's a giver."

Carnes also shared that he came across what may be the last collaboration between the two lovers—a song.

"It's so eerie. I found some of the last music that they had recorded and one of the last songs, 'I'll See You Yesterday.' It just seems so prophetic...and really, really powerful."

Sadly, on Feb. 17, McCready's body was found at her Heber Springs, Ark., home. She is survived by her two children, Zander, 6, and Zayne, 9-months-old.
