Will Ferrell has always been a big fan of performance art of the Andy Kaufman variety.

And the Anchorman star proved it once again by turning up at Tuesday night's Los Angeles Lakers game dressed as a security guard and promptly ejecting Shaquille O'Neal of all people from the Staples Center.

A mustachioed Ferrell got into character by donning the signature red coat and tie worn by the venue's security personnel and a tag that read "Ted Vagina."

During a break in the Lakers' match versus the Phoenix Suns (which L.A. ended up winning 91-85), "Ted" stood watch on the sidelines looking for any unruly fans. As it turns out, he found one: the former Lakers star sitting courtside whom Ferrell subsequently escorted out of the arena.

No word what Shaq did to get the boot, though we presume it's all part of some elaborate joke the comic's yet to let us in on.

One likely explanation: the 45-year-old Ferrell is in the midst of filming his upcoming comedy sequel, Anchorman: The Legend Continues (hence the 'stache), though it's unclear if the scene that played out was shot for the movie or if Will, with the Big Man acting as his accomplice, just wanted to have some fun with his fellow Angelenos.

If the latter, we wouldn't put it past him, especially since Ferrell just posted online a hilarious new video throwing his support behind Los Angeles mayoral candidate Eric Garcetti before the upcoming March 5 primary. Whether the comedian's endorsement is serious or not, it certainly has its fair share of laughs ("If you vote for him there will be free waffles every Tuesday morning for the whole city of Los Angeles!).
