Apparently, teen idols are a hot commodity among conservative politicians in the U.K. Someone just forgot to tell Justin Bieber.
Unbeknownst to the "Boyfriend" crooner, British Prime Minister David Cameron purportedly auctioned off a meet-and-greet with the Biebs at the Tories' annual Black and White Party to raise funds for future election campaigns.
According to The Sun, a wealthy financier ended up forking over £10,000 ($15,700) for the privilege of giving four teenage girls an access backstage pass to meet Bieber when his 2013 Believe Tour rolls into London's O2 Arena on March 7.
While Beliebers might well assume the Canandian hitmaker has a special relationship with Cameron, it turns out he was in the dark about the get-together, according to the paper.
That's because the deal was donated by Universal Music UK, Bieber's record label in Britain, and touted as "every girl's dream" prize in a catalogue advertising various lots.
"The four golden ticket holders will get the chance to go backstage to meet face to face with the gorgeous teen heartthrob," read the listing.
A rep for Bieber's camp was unavailable, but a Universal UK publicist said the 18-year-old popster "wouldn't expect to be informed" about who gets backstage passes to his shows. But that didn't stop Labour MP Steve McCabe from taking a shot at the opposition party, saying Cameron's selling access to Justin was a "cynical" stunt that would ultimately backfire.
Bieber is set to be the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend.
