TwitterAfter a three-year break, Fall Out Boy is getting back together.
Pete Wentz and company broke the news on their official website, noting the split was never permanent and announcing that after time off to recharge the batteries, they were ready to rock again.
"When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music. It's why we started fall out boy in the first place," said the band's statement. "This isn't a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us.
"The future of fall out boy starts now. Save rock and roll," they added, along with tweeting a pic of the four band members burning records in a bonfire out in a snow-covered field.
So much for those rumors of a fallout.
Fall Out boy went on hiatus in November 2009 with Wentz, the group's bassist and main lyricist, saying back then that he felt his name had "become a hindrance for the band," given his high celeb profile stemming from his marriage to Ashlee Simpson. (The two subsequently divorced in 2011.)
In a May 2011 tumblr post, singer-guitarist Patrick Stump remarked that the punk-pop rockers had no plans to head into the studio but always had every intention of doing another record.
"We're still friends, and we still would like to make music together," he wrote at the time.
In honor of their reunion, Fall Out Boy unveiled a new song for download, "My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark (Light Em Up). It's the first single off their sixth studio album, Save Rock and Roll, which hits stores worldwide on May 6 and 7, 2013. That date also happens to mark the 10th anniversary of their 2003 debut disc, Take This to Your Grave.
The quartet has also booked three intimate club gigs starting tonight in their hometown of Chicago at Subterranean, followed by shows at New York City's Webster Hall and L.A.'s The Roxy on Wednesday and Thursday night respectively.
They'll then kick off a North American tour on May 14 in Milwaukee, which will stop in such cities as Detroit, Toronto, Atlanta, Miami, Seattle and Denver before wrapping up in Nashville, Tenn., on June 30.
