Alicia Keys offered a quiet and dignified salute to the Stars and Stripes to usher in the Super Bowl Sunday, singing "The Star Spangled Banner" in a tempo so unique and leisurely that an inauguration-style lip syncing was pretty much out of the question.

Sitting at a silver piano wheeled onto the field just before her performance, Keys rocked an elegant red gown, a slicked 'do, diamond studs and a yellow gold and diamond Marina B Kar collar just ahead of the game-opening coin toss. Unlike some other pop stars we won't mention, Keys had no trouble remembering the lyrics to the national anthem and even inspired some of the ball players to belt along with her.

Prior to the big game, Keys gave fans a sneak peek of her outfit.

"Almost ready to sing at the @Superbowl! Is this football appropriate? Heels are my version of cleets!" she tweeted.

We say it's more than football appropriate!
