Ashton Kutcher's Apple Dilemma: Star Was Hospitalized for Going on Fruit Diet for Steve Jobs Role

    Jobs, Ashton Kutcher Glen Wilson/Sundance

You might say Ashton Kutcher took his role as Steve Jobs a bit too seriously.

To get into character to play the late Apple cofounder in the biopic jOBS, the Two and a Half Men star went on a fruits-only diet that ended up landing him in the hospital with pancreas problems.

"First of all, the fruitarian diet can lead to, like, severe issues," Kutcher told USA Today after the movie's screening at the Sundance Film Festival. "I went to the hospital like two days before we started shooting the movie. I was, like, doubled over in pain."

He added: "My pancreas levels were completely out of whack. It was really terrifying…considering everything."

Ashton Kutcher's jOBS slammed as "totally wrong" by Steve Wozniak

No doubt, the illness hit home for the 34-year-old thesp, especially considering Jobs died in October 2011 of pancreatic cancer.

But Kutcher—who admits that, like Jobs, he has a "ravenous interest in the tech space"—also had this to say about the visionary entrepreneur: "He's a guy that failed and got back on the horse," noted the actor.

"I think we can all sort of relate to that in some place in our life where we are moving forward with something and we fall down. You have to have the guts to get back up and go again. I think I share that as well."

While "guts" is the operative word here, we're guessing Ashton's going to think twice about being a "fruitarian" from now on.

Kutcher's jOBS hits theaters in April.

Here are some other movies we're looking forward to
