Watch: 2013 Golden Globes: Zooey Deschanel

The red carpet is a certified fashion minefield, just ask Zooey Deschanel.

While the New Girl star looked flawless in a chic red Oscar de la Renta gown on the carpet at today's Golden Globes, she revealed a wardrobe malfunction of sorts she experienced at the 64th Emmy Awards with another A-list lady: Lucy Liu.

In never-before-seen footage from the E! podium, Zooey is seen trying to remove her poofy blue Emmy gown after it got snagged on Liu's metallic disco ball dress—all while an oblivious Liu chatted away with our own Ryan Seacrest.

"She doesn't even know it's happening, that's my favorite part!" Zooey laughed, before launching into her "impersonation" of Liu, "She's like, 'Yes, Ryan, blah blah blah.' It's pretty amazing. You couldn't write that."

So what was going through her head at the time? "I was just trying to keep Lucy Liu from walking off with a piece of my dress," Zooey recalled. "Those dresses are expensive and I don't want to be responsible for anything. You have to be very careful out there."

"We were really connected," Liu later told Ryan when asked about the incident. "In the end we secured the ability to move separately, otherwise we'd have been forever together." (Uh, anyone else thinking that might make an amazing reality show?)

As for Zooey's de la Renta number tonight? "This fabric isn't quite as hookable," she assured us. Best of lucky anyway!
