Bobby pins are heaven sent when it comes to creating an updo. But using the hair accessory to keep bangs off your face has been a faux pas for years now. That is until the fashion world decided to have a love affair with the ‘90s.

Exposed bobby pins are back—and more popular than ever.

Katharine McPhee added a colorful trio to her faux bob while walking the red carpet at the NBC Universal TCA Winter Press Tour. Then, Emily Blunt went for a more retro approach with a single pin at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.

The pro is that this trend is very easy—and affordable!—to recreate. The con? It can also just look like you didn’t have time to do your hair.
