Calling all Sex and the City fans!

Set your DVR's because The Carrie Diaries, the highly-anticipated prequel to the hit phenomenon, premieres Monday, Jan. 14, and we're overflowing with excitement!

The '80s storyline is sure to bring endless entertainment and a few surefire giggles, but what we're really looking forward to are the incredible costumes worn by the young Carrie Bradshaw (and friends!)

And to celebrate this exciting new series debut, we tapped Eric Daman, the show's brilliant costume designer, to shed some light on the stylish ensembles he created for the leading little lady, played by Anna Sophia Robb

"Dressing a young Carrie Bradshaw was at first quite intimidating, but ultimately exhilarating! It was very important to keep in mind that she is a young high school student in Connecticut and still figuring out her style," he tells us.

As for his inspiration? Daman, who was also the fashion mastermind behind Gossip Girl, delved into creative research which included studying John Hughes classics and a mix of quiet hometown films like Ordinary People; while also poring over his own high school yearbooks.

One thing's for sure—The Carrie Diaries costumes certainly won't disappoint!
