Isn't calling all the film categories at the 70th Annual Golden Globes as easy as saying "Lincoln" over and over and over again?
Yeah, pretty much.
But there is more to it than that. Here's our fearless ballot for Sunday's big show (check out our TV predictions, as well):
Drama—Lincoln: As we were saying, knowledge of rocket science is not required here.
Drama, Actor—Daniel Day-Lewis, Lincoln: Or here.
Drama, Actress—Naomi Watts, The Impossible: Finally, an opportunity to show everybody how smart we are! Don't make us look bad, Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty).
Comedy or Musical—Les Misérables: If you think the Hollywood Foreign Press is not going to celebrate a British-directed, French-originated musical based on Victor Hugo's internationally beloved novel, then, sorry to say, you are not thinking.
Comedy or Musical, Actor—Hugh Jackman, Les Misérables: He didn't drink a drop of water for 36 hours! He's going to lose to Day-Lewis at the Oscars! The man deserves a break.
Comedy or Musical, Actress—Jennifer Lawrence, Silver Linings Playbook: We're not convinced Globe voters like this comedy-drama as much as Oscar voters do, but we're convinced Globe voters like Lawrence very much as a Shiny New Star of Tomorrow.
Supporting Actor—Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln: Here we go again…
Supporting Actress—Anne Hathaway, Les Misérables: She couldn't be more of a lock if she were in Lincoln.
Director—Steven Spielberg, Lincoln: A win is the best revenge for allowing the Hollywood Foreign Press to give him the career-ending, lifetime-achievement-award treatment a few years ago.
Screenplay—Lincoln: You were expecting maybe an upset by Nixon?
Score—Anna Karenina: It's grand. It's theatrical. And, to be honest, it wouldn't shock us in the least if Dario Marianelli's music lost to John Williams' Aaron Copland-channeling themes for (what else?) Lincoln.
Original Song—"Skyfall," Skyfall: There's only one thing that can beat a brand-new Les Mis song ("Suddenly"), and that's retro-vibing Adele song.
Animated Feature—Brave: Presumably gets bonus points from the Hollywood Foreign Press for being set in Scotland.
Foreign Language Film—Amour: In English, the title means Lincoln.
