Anne Hathaway Talks Getting Flu During Les Mis Press Tour, What Hubby Adam Shulman Will Do If She Messes Up Her Speech

Anne Hathaway cries her eyes out as Fantine in Les Misérables. But she was a happy camper on the red carpet before Tuesday night's National Board of Review Awards in New York.

Wearing a Sam Laran tuxedo, the 30-year-old actress spoke glowingly to E! News about the big-screen musical's reception with critics and moviegoers, especially since she missed out on making much of the media rounds leading up to Les Mis' Christmas Day release.

"You know I was really sick through all of press," she told E! News, revealing she got the flu from costar Hugh Jackman and director Tom Hooper. "So I didn't get to really do a full-blown celebration."

Adam Lambert clarifies Les Mis Twitter rant and praises Anne Hathaway (again)

She continued: "But it was nice having the film come out on Christmas because I felt like it was in its proper place, which was just behind seeing family, caroling, watching kids you're related to hopped up on sugar—all my little cousins running around. But then it's like, 'oh yeah, I have a film opening,' but I celebrated it in its proper pecking order."

On the subject of awards season, which can sometimes try actors' patience with all the press they have to do, Hathaway suggested she's the last one to complain.

"The only person who has the right to say that is Meryl Streep because she sat through the Oscars 90,000 times," she joked.

Last but not least, the thesp said having her husband, Adam Shulman, by her side—as he was on the red carpet last night and will likely be at every kudosfest she goes to for Les Misérables —"is the best," especially if she has to give an acceptance speech.

"I turned to him tonight and I said, 'So if I mess anything up you're still gonna make out with me tonight?' recalled Hathaway. "And he said, yeah…yeah, yeah, yeah."

Good man.

Since Hathaway won the National Board's Best Supporting Actress honor, we're guessing the lovebirds had a pretty good night.
