It happens. Even to Meredith Vieira.

The TV host gave viewers quite the wake-up call when she inadvertently exclaimed "s--t" Thursday morning while appearing on the Today show.

It all happened in the show's fourth hour, with Vieira subbing for Kathie Lee Gifford, who was said to be resting up after a root canal.

As the show came back from commercial, Vieira—holding a fruit drink and sitting next to Hoda Kotb and Al Roker—accidentally dropped her cue cards...and then promptly dropped the infamous cuss bomb.

"Oh, s--t!" she said.

The gaffe quickly spurred a barrage of apologies from Vieira, who implored, "Oh, my gosh, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." (And seemed both truly contrite and totally adorable about the inadvertant slip—even if it's the second time it's happened.)

A few seconds later, a bleep came on, to which Kotb quipped, "A little late for the beep."

Meanwhile, a gleeful Roker couldn't help but throw his hands up in the air and scream, "Yes! Yes!"

Ah, as the veteran weatherman must know, just like the weather, live TV can be oh so unpredictable.
