There's a war brewing over at Modern Family between Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrell.

And it's all about…football!

It turns out that the funnymen's alma maters are competing against each other in the upcoming Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

In other sports news, did you hear about the Olympian who became a Las Vegas escort?

Stonestreet will be rooting for the Kansas State Wildcats while Burrell will be doing the same for the University of Oregon Ducks.

"We have a bet," Stonestreet told me earlier today. "We're doing the traditional thing where whoever loses has to wear the winning team's regalia from head to toe. He'll have to wear all Kansas State to work one day or I'm going to have to wear all Oregon. But then we're going to make a nice donation to the theater department of the winning school."

Stonestreet has another very special connection to the annual game. He recently participated in Tostitos' surprise homecoming for U.S. military veterans at Cerritos College outside of Los Angeles.

What was supposed to be a simple game of touch football for the 28 vets turned out to be an all-day event that included football stars Kurt Warner and Marcus Allen and legendary coaches Urban Meyer and Bobby Bowden joining their teams. Highlights will be shown during the Fiesta Bowl on ESPN on Jan. 3.

"It was just awesome to see the look on [the veterans'] faces," Stonestreet said. "There were 12,000 people in the stadium, three marching bands and even a guy who parachuted in with the game ball for what they thought was just a touch football game. It was such a cool thing to see."
