Lady Gaga's recent trip to South Africa wasn't just about wild safari rides and selfie pics with "beautiful" lions, it was also a chance for the singer to start a new journey of empowering children by teaming up with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

First stop was The National Association of Child Care Workers' centers for orphans and vulnerable children.

"On Dec. 1 I visited Isibindi Safe Park in Naledi to speak w the children about Youth Empowerment on behalf of UN/UNICEF," she tweeted.

"I will be continuing my work with UN/UNICEF and a https://Littlemonsters.com page documenting our progress will up shortly," she added. "Teaming with the United Nations I can continue breeding our Born This Way message of compassion. #KinderAndBraverWorld"

The singer announced last year that she would be launching the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit organization that will focus on youth empowerment by addressing such issues as self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring and career development. And with the help of her mother and Oprah Winfrey, Gaga's idea officially came to life in February.

"I want to help, I want to be brave, I want there to be more tolerance in the universe," Mother Monster said of what prompted her to start the foundation. "I want there to be more acceptance. What I realize more than anything was that I never wanted this dialogue to end."
