Kate Middleton's Pregnant! Check Out Our Timeline of the Road to the Royal Baby

With the exciting news that Kate Middleton and Prince William are about to become first-time parents, we thought this would be as good a time as any to look at the couple's relationship leading up to this momentous occasion.

Not to mention the numerous pregnancy rumors that have circled the duke and duchess pretty much from the day they tied the knot.

Now, of course, bumpwatch can really, truly, officially begin!

Kate Middleton and Prince William expecting first child

2002: William and Kate begin dating a year after meeting as students at the University of St. Andrews.

April 2007: The two call it quits, with a spokesperson for Clarence House saying nothing more than "Prince William's life is private and, as such, we do not comment on it." However, according to British media reports, the split was mutual, amicable and no third party was involved.

June 2007: While William and Kate insist they are "just good friends," it is soon revealed the couple has reconciled and the relationship is back on.

Duchess steps out for school celebration amid pregnancy rumors

Nov. 16, 2010: It is announced that William and Kate are engaged. "The wedding will take place in the spring or summer of 2011, in London," read, in part, the official statement from Clarence House. "Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course."

April 29, 2011: With the world watching, William and Kate marry in Westminster Abbey. Hours before they exchange vows, the couple is given the the titles Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

May 2011: The newlyweds head to the Seychelles for their honeymoon.

William and Kate head to Cambridge for royal visit

May 23, 2011: In their first royal duties since the wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge greet President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama at Buckingham Palace.

June 30, 2011: William and Kate begin 10-day trip to Canada and U.S.

September 2011: The couple opens Children's Cancer Center at South London's Royal Marsden hospital.

November 2011: Kate bumpwatch sparked after she turns down peanut paste during UNICEF mission to Copenhagen. Meanwhile, a palace source says she hoped to be pregnant soon.

William and Kate attend Veterans Day remembrance ceremony

Jan. 9, 2012: Kate celebrates her 30th birthday.

March 8, 2012: The duchess helps Queen Elizabeth II kick off her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

March 21, 2012: William returns to Kate after six-week deployment in the Falkland Islands.

April 29, 2012: William and Kate mark one-year wedding anniversary with "low-key" celebration.

May 18, 2012: Kate puts to rest (at least, temporarily) pregnancy rumors after she is spotted raising a glass of alcohol at a Windsor Castle luncheon with William and brother-in-law Prince Harry.

June 21, 2012: William turns the big 3-0.

August 2012: William and Kate, along with Harry, take in the Summer Olympics in London.

Sept. 12, 2012: Pregnancy rumors swirl again after Kate opts to not accept a glass of wine that is offered to her at a banquet in Singapore.

Sept. 14, 2012: Topless photos of Kate, reportedly taken while the duchess was on vacation with the duke in France, are published in a French magazine. Couple subsequently files criminal complaint.

Sept. 20, 2012: Star magazine puts a Photoshopped picture of Kate with a slightly rounded belly on its cover with the headline, "It's Twins!"

William, Kate and Harry to become patrons of philanthropic organization

Nov. 26, 2012: Kate debuts new hairdo with heavily parted bangs, glossy curls and slightly darker shade of brunette.

Nov. 29, 2012: Evidence starts to build that suggests Kate may be with child.

Dec. 3, 2012: St. James's Palace confirms the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their first baby. A spokesman said Kate, who is thought to be less than 12 weeks pregnant, has been admitted to a London hospital with acute morning sickness and is likely to stay for several days.
