We have to admit beanies aren't typically the first winter accessory we reach for once the temperature drops. (We tend to associate them with Eminem.) But several starlets have us rethinking the cozy knit hat as the perfect way to inject our winter wardrobe with an effortlessly cool laid-back vibe.

Reese Witherspoon and Ashley Tisdale recently topped off their off-duty street styles with slouchy versions of the hot headgear. Tisdale's nonchalant addition of a chunky knit cream colored hat to her tee-and-denim-mini combo in Los Angeles perfects the enviable I'm-not-trying-too-hard look that every cool girl desires. Witherspoon threw on a ribbed beanie before running errands in Brentwood for a touch of textural flair to her outfit.

If you want to make more of a statement with your beanie, select one in a vibrant color, like Selena Gomez's turquoise topper at the Adidas NEO press conference. Bold beanies in ravishing reds, electric blues or any other eye-catching hue offer a quick way of adding a pop of color to your winter wardrobe.

And if you're still not sold on bundling up  in a beanie, consider the ease of its throw-it-on-and-go functionality and the fact that it keeps you warm—while also potentially hiding a bad hair day! Short-haired beauties Miley Cyrus and Ginnifer Goodwin both turned to the hats for an added layer of warmth in recent weeks. A close-knit skull cap like Cyrus' is ideal for those with shaved manes during cold weather months.

What do you think of the beanie? Is it a stylish or sloppy fashion statement?
