Jason Merritt/WireImageNicki Minaj is known for her outrageously original sense of style—think clashing colors and multihued hair—so we were surprised to see the fearless fashionista step out in a gown we've already seen on another star at last night's American Music Awards.
Sure, the bold neon yellow color of Minaj's Monique Lhuillier dress fits the singer's over-the-top style perfectly, but the fact that we saw the exact same frock on Modern Family's Julie Bowen just a few short months ago at the 2012 Emmys certainly does not.
To her credit, despite the disastrous déjà vu moment, Minaj still managed to make the look her own with a few eye-catching accessories, like a striking statement necklace and larger-than-life cocktail ring. Her pretty platinum locks and popping pink pout also added some of her trademark sassy style to her outfit.
Bowen took a much more understated approach to the mermaid gown, pairing it with Bochic chandelier earrings and a gold Swarovski clutch. Her half-up, half-down look with relaxed waves completed her simple chic style.
It seems the dress proved a good luck charm to both women; Minaj walked away with two awards and Bowen took home the Emmy for best supporting actress.
