Box Office: Breaking Dawn Part 2's Fast Start Grows to $71.2 Million, But Still No Record-Breaker

Opening-day debut should rank among all-time launches, although not biggest Twilight debut of all-time

Breaking Dawn Part 2 is off to an estimated $71.2 million start.

The film should rank among the biggest opening days of all-time, although not the biggest Twilight opener of all-time.

Its studio was estimating that by the end of Sunday the film will stand at $135 million domestically, a typically staggering opening-weekend debut for the franchise, if below the most optimistic projections.

It's worth noting that the studio's reported opening-day take still includes 10 p.m., Thursday shows, and, thus, does not strictly reflect opening-day business.

But it's safe to say that if and when the Thursday business gets subtracted, the movie's Friday is still going to be one for the record books.

Worldwide, Breaking Dawn Part 2, the fifth and final Twilight, is at $162.2 million after a blockbuster, two-day international score of $91 million.
