The New York City Marathon has officially been canceled.
After endless criticism and social media backlash, Mayor Michael Bloomberg made the formal announcement Friday that the annual run would not take place—for the first time in 40 years—due to Hurricane Sandy.
And just as folks took to Twitter to protest the marathon before it's cancellation, celebs, New Yorkers and tons of tweeters are sharing their reaction on the social media site now that the plug's been pulled on the 26.2 mile dash.
Andy Cohen: "Mayor Bloomberg gets it right canceling the marathon."
Joy Behar: "What do you mean they cancelled Sunday's #NYCMarathon? That can't be true. Paul Ryan already announced that he won it."
Jimmy Kimmel: "I'm running the NYC Marathon anyway and I'm going to WIN!"
Rainn Wilson: "ATTN: NYC Marathoners. Hosting my own private marathon on Sunday. Meet me at Hunts Point, Bronx at 5 am. Bring cash."
Lo Bosworth: "update -marathon is off, so if u r a runner, even better reason to donate your room to #sandy survivors in need http://race2recovernyc.com/ RT."
