Breaking Dawn Part 2 marks the end of the epic love saga between Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). So maybe we all shouldn't be so eager for that Nov. 16 release date, huh? Unless, of course there's life for the Twilight gang beyond the final film.
"I had planned out where it would go for a couple more books, so I know exactly what would happen," author Stephenie Meyer revealed at today's junket for the film when asked about a future for Jacob (Taylor Lautner), Renesmee and other Twi staples. "There are other characters that I think would have a lot of voice in those coming stories."
Meyer—who admitted it's "difficult" to write the characters now that they're so intertwined with specific actors—continued, "Maybe someday I'll write it out, just for myself. We'll see. I'm not in to permanents so I wouldn't say no, absolutely. I'm not going to do it today. I don't know how I'm going to feel in five years."
But what about allowing someone else to take on the Twilight universe, much like George Lucas recently did by handing Star Wars over to Disney. Don't count on it. "I'm a hands-on mom and these characters feel like my kids," she explained. "I just don't know if that's ever something I'd be fine with. But again, in 10 years, who knows."
The end of the vampire love story might not be the worst thing though, as stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart both admitted they're happy that the saga has come to a close. "I'm so happy that the story's told, you have no idea," Stewart said. "The fact that this thing is out and it's not weighing on us anymore, super excited about that. But I don't want it to sound like I'm excited just to be done with the experience."
She also revealed that she won't be taking on another huge franchise anytime soon, saying, "As of now, probably not. But, you know, never say never." A sentiment shared by Pattinson, who quipped, "A franchise is a Burger King or a Subway, it's not a movie...As an actor in it, you really, really feel like you have no control...You get trapped."
That said, some of the other actors have ideas for what will happen with their characters once the credits roll on Breaking Dawn. "I think Esme, she would really like for everything to just calm down a little bit and not have to deal with the Volturi for a while," Elizabeth Reaser weighed in. "Maybe go to our island with Dr. Cullen, take a little break to the island and let the kids run free for a while."
Kellan Lutz has a far sexier take on life after Twilight, teasing, "Well, Rosalie and I should go to our cabin and, you know. They allude to that a lot and you never see it. And maybe we'll adopt! Renesmee needs a friend."
