Shooter Jennings is a little late to the party, but this is certainly one way to make headlines!

The "Wild & Lonesome" rocker, apparently enraged by Rolling Stone's latest article about John Mayer, went on a Twitter rant in which he used a variety of colorful terms to describe his fellow artist.

"I love how the 'neil young of our generation' self-naming king douche grows his hair out + buys a place in Montana just to do RS article," Jennings launched into his 140-plus-character diatribe.

He continued: "Claims he's 'done w hollywood game' and has 'roots' and then immediately cuts hair, goes back to hollywood clubs + starts banging Katy Perry...And don't anybody say he's a great guitar player. Gary Clark Jr & @lukasnelson wipes their asses with this dude."

Then, just in case anyone had missed his subtle point, Jennings added, "That's enough, John Mayer."

His comment about Mayer's guitar-playing skills came in response to the famed ladies man's defenders, such as Michael Smith, who tweeted back, "@ShooterJennings it burns ur ass that his career has given him money to do so and urs hasn't. The only talent u have is ur dads last name."

(Of course, Jennings also had his supporters, like Rayne Jamerson: "@ShooterJennings Hahahahahaha! 3rd degree burn!")

Jennings actually concluded with an apology—but not to Mayer. "Sorry to s--t talk," he wrote. "Lord knows not everybody likes my ass. But seeing that RS in my friggin bathroom & reading the narcissistic drivel..."

Well, at least the magazine was in the right room, as far as the distressed Jennings is concerned.

Mayer, who no longer tweets, hasn't commented because...why would he? Katy Perry, also sucked into this mess, has remained silent, as well.
