Scott Stapp says he's lucky to be alive right now, thanks to one person in particular.

While promoting his new memoir, Sinner's Creed, on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live on Thursday, the singer spoke candidly about the time he checked into a Miami hotel during a drug binge and was awake for three days straight.

"I thought I was in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, in an asylum," he said. "I started hearing things, like the cops were coming through the door and I started thinking, 'I can't embarrass my family.' So I was trying to climb over the balcony and fell 40 feet."

As a result, Stapp revealed he fractured his skull, broke his hip and nose and couldn't move.

"I laid out there for two and a half hours and my guardian angel showed up—rapper T.I.," he said. "He immediately took care of the situation and saved my life."

Stapp's book, Sinner's Creed, was just released on Oct. 2.
