HBO has renewed Boardwalk Empire for a fourth season, the network announced today. The Prohibition-era drama has been a solid hit for HBO, and has garnered plenty of acclaim with critics and Emmy voters.

"Terry Winter, Martin Scorsese and the rest of their outstanding team continue to produce a stunning show that never fails to surprise and entertain," HBO president Michael Lombardo said in a statement. "We are excited to bring this unique series back for a fourth season."

The season-three premiere of the Steve Buscemi-led series has collected 7.2 million viewers since Sept. 16, with the help of additional telecasts, DVR playback and HBO On Demand and HBO GO.

Since its debut, Boardwalk Empire has received 12 Primetime Emmy awards, including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. In 2011, Boardwalk Empire won a Golden Globe for Best Drama Series, and Buscemi nabbed Best Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series.

Let's celebrate this renewal news with a trip to the speakeasy, shall we?
