Goodbye Quahog and hello Hollywood! Seth MacFarlane is hosting the Academy Awards.

Yes, the Academy announced Monday that the Family Guy creator and Ted star/director will host the 85th Academy Awards on Feb. 24, 2013.

"It's truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars," MacFarlane, who follows in Billy Crystal's footsteps emceeing the show, said in a statement. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast."

The funnyman also posted a YouTube video of himself telling the good news to his dad, who seems more excited about giving his son gently used swimming trunks than hearing about his hosting gig.

Just last month, MacFarlane presented at the Emmy Awards. He began speaking into a microphone that wasn't on, but quickly recovered and made a joke about missing rehearsal.

Somehow we think he'll take this gig a bit more seriously!
