Damian Lewis got things rolling when a reporter asked the Brit how he planned to celebrate his win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Lewis joked that he and Danes were bound for a romantic getaway.
"When that baby is a ginger," the red-haired Lewis said, "you guys are going to have a field day."
On Emmy night, Danes' drape of a gown hid her bump well, but it was there—the bump, that is, not the baby.
"Thank God, I am not having my child right now," said an enthused Danes, a winner herself for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
It took a while, and a few questions about national security, a subject on which Lewis and Danes are also both experts, natch, for the talk to finally turn to Don Draper's crew.
Returning to the press-conference room after her show's big win, Danes said of Mad Men, "We didn't make our show to just undermine them."
"We're delighted and thrilled and a little startled," she continued. "It feels pretty nice."
No, an Emmy's no baby, but it's not bad, either.
