The comic's comic, who won two Emmys Sunday and deemed "The World's Second Best Comedian" by presumptive No. 1 Ricky Gervais, was asked backstage why FX's Louie has brought him acclaim, while HBO's Lucky Louie brought him a quick hook, canceled after one season.
"I'm better than I was before," C.K. deadpanned. "Hopefully, I'll be better later."
For the record, yes, C.K. is always sorta deadpan. (Even on a breakout night, which included wins for writing both Louie and his standup special Live at the Beacon Theatre.) And, yes, his humor is always steeped in the truth. So, it seems to follow that he really does think Louie is an improvement on Lucky Louie.
"I'm older now," C.K. continued. "Older people are smarter and funnier."
Oh, and there's one more thing.: "If you think everything you've done is great, you're probably dumb."
