Now that two Oscar-bait films, The Great Gatsby and Life of Pi, have abandoned their planned Christmas Day openings, another highly anticipated adaptation is snatching up that prime holiday real estate: Les Misérables.

The epic adaptation of the Victor Hugo-based Broadway musical, starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried, will now hit theaters on Dec. 25, Universal Studios confirmed to E! News. The film was originally set to hit theaters Dec. 14. (Life of Pi shifted up to Nov. 21, while Gatsby is opting for a summer 2013 release.)

Must admit, the trailer for Les Mis had us all tearing up, so we're fully expecting some Christmas tears sobbing.

(E! and Universal are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
