Meanwhile, a new figure emerged in the extortion case. The boyfriend of Autumn Jackson--the woman charged with trying to extort $40 million from Cosby by claiming to be his illegitimate daughter from that affair--pleaded guilty today in the case and is now cooperating with prosecutors.
In an interview with CBS' Dan Rather, Cosby acknowledged having a fling with Jackson's mother and said there is "a possibility" he is the father. Cosby said: "If you said, 'Did you make love to the woman?' the answer is yes. 'Are you the father?' No."
Those comments prompted today's statement from Camille Cosby: "All old personal negative issues between Bill and me were resolved years ago. We are a united couple. What occurred 23 years ago is not important to me except for the current issue of extortion." The Cosbys have been married 33 years.
Antonay Williams, 26, pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court to conspiracy and aiding and abetting the extortion. Williams identified himself as Jackson's boyfriend.
Williams told the court that he helped Jackson and her accomplice Jose Medina in their scheme by threatening to disclose to the media that Cosby was her father. He said some of the threats were made through faxes and interstate phone calls.
Williams faces a possible total maximum sentence on the two counts of seven years and fines of $500,000. He was released on a $250,000 bond. Jackson, 22, was freed from federal prison in New York yesterday after two mysterious Californians posted $250,000 bond. She returned to California to stay with her grandmother--one of the conditions of her bail. The 51-year-old Medina remains in federal prison.
Camille Cosby also asked for help in the investigation of Ennis Cosby's murder. "What is very important to me is the apprehension of the person or persons who killed our son. I appeal to all of you to help us find the murderer," she said.
