TOP OF THE NEWS: "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss, who ran a call-girl ring catering to the movie industry's rich and famous, was sentenced today to 37 months in federal prison for tax evasion and money laundering.

WARNED: British prosecutors let Liam Gallagher of Oasis off with a warning for his arrest November 9 on a cocaine possession charge in London.

CONTENDERS: Babyface tied a record with 12 Grammy nominations today, but the spotlight belonged to female musicians like Tracy Chapman, Celine Dion, LeAnn Rimes and Jewel, as women dominated the field.

UP AND AWAY: Music and airline tycoon Richard Branson and two co-pilots ascended in a giant hot-air balloon from Marrakesh, Morocco to start an attempt at the first round-the-world balloon flight.

LEFT BUILDING: Tomorrow would have been Elvis' 62nd birthday. To celebrate, Graceland is hosting two-days' worth of parties, including a luncheon today for all fan club presidents.

JUMPED SHIP: Tischa Campbell, co-star of Fox's Martin has left the show, claiming series star and TV hubbie Martin Lawrence sexually harassed her and conditions on the set were "intolerable." She is suing Lawrence and the producers.

UP AND OUT: ABC announced that the chairman of its entertainment division, Ted Harbert, would leave his job on February 15. He was recently bumped up to that slot to make room for incoming division president Jamie Tarses.

ALL GONE: Fox sold out its inventory of Super Bowl ads for a record average of $1.2 million for a 30-second spot.

INFLUENCE PEDDLING: President Clinton's inaugural committee said it would sell commemorative items through QVC, the home shopping channel.

CELEBRITY COURTHOUSE: A Connecticut judge is considering whether to dismiss a lawsuit against David Letterman. A woman is claiming Letterman publicly ridiculed her and violated her privacy by repeatedly showing footage of her dribbling peach juice down her chin.

O.J. SIMPSON PREVIEW: Kato Kaelin will be back on the witness stand when the O.J. Simpson civil trial resumes Wednesday. Simpson's defense team also plans to call back Al Cowlings and criminalist Dennis Fung before closing with O.J. himself.

DOTTED LINE: Danny DeVito's Jersey Films and ageless TV host Dick Clark are dancing together on a feature version of American Bandstand...Hollywood hunk du jour Matthew McConaughey is in talks with Steven Spielberg to star in the filmmaker's next project, Amistad. AILING: Blues singer Son Seals is in serious condition after being shot in the jaw by his wife during a domestic tiff Sunday.

DEATH: Catherine Scorsese, who played bit parts in movies directed by her son Martin Scorsese, died on Monday at age 84 in New York from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
