An autopsy on Tony Scott will be "done today," E! News has confirmed.

Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said it would indeed take place on Monday, after stating the director's shocking passing "was reported as a suicide." Winter added that "there was a note found at [Scott's] office by friends."

Meanwhile, a source tells ABC News, Scott had inoperable brain cancer.

The 68-year-old filmmaker's body was recovered on Sunday afternoon after he leapt to his death off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, LAPD Harbor Community Police confirmed.

According to witnesses, Scott climbed a fence on the south side of the bridge and jumped around 12:30 p.m.

Scott's passing marks the end of an illustrious career.

After making his feature debut with 1983's The Hunger, the brother of fellow director Ridley Scott went on to helm such films as Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II, Crimson Tide, True Romance and Enemy of the State.

He also executive produced several television programs, including Numb3rs and The Good Wife.
