Team USA simply rocked the house today.

After striking up a bit of a rivalry with Argentina (courtesy of a cheap shot to Carmelo Anthony's groin), Team USA men's basketball shut down the Argentinean squad, advancing to the gold medal game against Spain on Sunday.

The USA women's track and field team also kicked major butt, knocking out their biggest competition—the Jamaican runners—in a record-breaking showdown that rewarded them with a gold medal in the women's 4x100m relay. The track and field stars broke the world record set by East Germany in 1985 while they were at it.

And that wasn't all the excitement that abounded during the games Friday.

Not So Splashy: British diving hottie Tom Daley barely made it into Saturday's semifinals after he finished in a surprising 15th place out of 18 qualifying spots. The U.K. superstar will have a chance to make a comeback, though, when he competes against diving frontrunners Lin Yue and Qiu Bo (both from China).

Hockey Heaven: The Netherlands won gold in women's hockey for the third time in their history.

Bahamian Gold: The Bahamas nabbed its first gold in the men's 1600m relay, beating the U.S. team. The win marked the fifth gold medal for the Bahamas in their Olympic history.

Hammering the Competition: Russian Olympian Tatyana Lysenko became the first reigning world champion to win gold in the women's hammer throw, and topped the Olympic record set in Beijing by Belarus' Aksana Miankova while she was at it.

History Makers: Tunisian swimmer Oussama Mellouli won gold in the men's 10km open water marathon, becoming the first swimmer to win Olympic medals in both the open water and in the pool.

Synchronized Success: Russia dominated in synchronized swimming, taking home gold in the team event and  keeping their streak of winning every gold in the team and duets competition since 2000.
