Just days after a family-friendly shot of Russell Brand posing as Captain Hook was released, along comes word from the funnyman himself that he wishes he was still, well, hooked on heroin.
Wait, what?!
In Russell Brand: From Addiction to Recovery, a new documentary scheduled to air next week on BBC Three, Katy Perry's former hubby can be seen watching footage of his younger self doing the drug and commenting, "This is when you know it's a disease. It doesn't matter that I sat in that flat in Hackney and now I'm in the Savoy. I'm jealous of me then."
And while Brand has been clean for 10 years, the 37-year-old comic actor goes on to compare his former life to the one he has now.
"It doesn't make a difference to me. The money, the fame, the power, the sex, the women—none of it," he says of his success. "I'd rather be a drug addict."
But despite such an admission, Brand has obviously moved on from actually acting upon such feelings.
Over the weekend, he was spotted with a brand-new tattoo on his arm that reads, "Lord, make me a channel of thy peace."
The line is from a prayer attributed to St. Francis of Assisi and is often recited by recovering addicts as it is part of the Alcoholics Anonymous book Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions.
