Dennis Rodman a Bride!

New York turns out for a wedding, gets a publicity stunt--so far!

We've been had. Big. A slam dunk. But hey, it's been fun.

Last night, Dennis Rodman appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to say that he would marry a "beautiful, intelligent woman" in New York today. This morning, he went on the Howard Stern show and repeated the story, adding that he'd also be at a book signing for his bestseller Bad as I Wanna Be at the Barnes & Noble store near Rockefeller Center over the noon hour.

Rumors flew. The bride would be Madonna. (Well, Rodman says in his book that they dated, but he decided he didn't want to be her "boy toy.") No, it's a New York stripper. Crowds gathered outside the bookstore. Traffic came to a halt on New York's busy Fifth Avenue.

Sure enough, at the appointed time, a white, horse-drawn carriage made its way down Fifth with a veiled bride in full wedding gown and four bridesmaids (models, actually) in tuxes. After a few demure moments, the bride parted the veil and--this was either the worst case of look-alikes marrying since Mick and Bianca or it was Dennis Rodman in drag, complete with blonde wig and a bouquet. (At least he was showing better taste than his last cross-dressing signing in May, when he wore silver lipstick and a feather boa.)

"This was the last signing on my tour," Rodman said. "I just wanted to get married to the people of the world."

He spent two hours in the store, autographing for a crowd of about 300. There's no word on where he was going when he left, but St. Patrick's is just down the street.
