Ryan Gosling's new movie, Gangster Squad, with Sean Penn and Emma Stone may find itself hitting theaters later than expected.

Warner Bros. is reportedly considering pushing the gun-toting mobster film's Sept. 7 release date to distance itself from The Dark Knight Rises tragedy.

Sources tell E! News that a final decision has not been made, but the studio—the same one behind director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy—may make an announcement as early as tomorrow.

Entertainment Weekly also reports that a scene in the movie in which gangsters break through a movie screen and start shooting the audience with machine guns may be reedited or cut entirely from the film.

The film is based on the police's deadly pursuit of real-life mobster Mickey Cohen (Penn) in Los Angeles in the 1940s. Warner Bros. immediately pulled the trailers for the movie following the Aurora, Colo., shooting spree.

The studio also plans to contribute a "substantial" amount of money to Colorado charities that are helping victims of the July 20 tragedy, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

A studio rep confirms they've been in touch with Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper's office and will make the donation through givingfirst.org, a program of Colorado's Community First Foundation.
