The Dark Knight Rises tragedy, thought to be the largest mass shooting in U.S. history, has shocked the world with its cruel and senseless violence.

As the aftermath of this horrific event in Colorado continues to unfold, it also underscores a sad fact: Though this may prove to be the deadliest incident, it is not the first time violence has broken out at a movie theater. 

Some outbursts have occurred alongside showings of violent films addressing politically charged topics like gang life, as seen in Boyz in the Hood or The Warriors. Then again, screenings of Black Swan and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button have also seemed to bring out the worst in people, as well.
