Which British Singer Claims She's Broke?

Could it be Adele? Joss Stone, perhaps? What about Lily Allen?

Lily Allen, Joss Stone and, of course, Adele have all earned a ton of dough.

But who among them insists she's not nearly as wealthy as you might think?

That would be Stone, who, despite being recently ranked 27th on Britain's Young Rich List, claims she is definitely not worth a rumored $16 million.

"I don't have that kind of money," Stone told the Daily Mail, noting that she was forced to give much of her earnings back when she wanted out of a recording contract in 2009.

"It all went when I left EMI," she said. "I was flat even, down to nothing. I wasn't even down to a million in the bank."

But the songstress doesn't seem too overly concerned about her financial situation.

"Money is the thing that people hold over you, but to me it was just cotton balls," Stone added. "Don't let it suffocate you. Don't let yourself need it that much. I just thought: 'I'm free. I'll go out and play some gigs and earn a living.'"
