Piers Morgan will probably never forget his bizarre interview with Robert Blake on CNN Wednesday night.

The irate, defensive actor repeatedly referred to Morgan as "Charlie Potatoes." When asked if he was fully sane, Blake replied, "The truth is I think I'm sort of a mutation, or a subspecies. I think If I was born 10,000 years ago, I would have taken two or three people, run off and started another tribe." OK, then.

But it was when Morgan asked the 78-year-old Baretta star about his acquittal in the 2001 murder of his wife that things really took a turn for the worse.

"I made a deal to come here and talk about anybody from the book," he snapped. He was appearing on the show to promote Tales of a Rascal, his self-published memoir. "I excused you from that deal because I thought you were going to be cool. Now you're trying to [bleep] into the ground."

"I've never allowed anybody to ask me the questions that you're asking," Blake continued. "I allowed you to do that because I trust you. And I would have assumed that you and that guy in your ear would trust me. And if you don't, then we'd better start talking about The Little Rascals."

At another point, the actor turned away from Morgan to face the camera and address "rotten bastard" cops who "ripped my guts out and left me beside the road to die."

"I'll get you son of a bitches later, but don't think you're going to get off the hook. I was supposed to die in that cell, wasn't I, you bastards. Well, I didn't die, and you didn't get your book deal, you mothers. I wrote a book about you, so you'll have to go out and rip some other celebrity 'til he's dead, then you can write a book about him," he said furiously. He then turned back to Morgan and simply said, "I'm sorry, I'm back."

Morgan stayed calm on the air with Blake, even joking about the bizarre experience on Twitter. "#RobertBlake trending worldwide – and deservedly so," he wrote. "Incredible interview. I'd cast him in a movie with @charliesheen tomorrow."
