Is Stephenie Meyer's The Host Trying to End Twilight's Reign?!

Stephenie Meyer already 'fessed that things are "a lot calmer" on The Host set without Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart (plus all those horny teens and Twilight love triangles!).

And even though their Twilight-inspired romance caused more than a bit of production drama, there's no doubt, Rob and Kristen's chemistry made the movie an instant vampy sensation.

But sorry, Rob and Kris, Steph's got a new set of superstars for her alientastic flick (namely Saiorse Ronan, Jake Abel and Jared Howe), and the twists and turns of their love story saga just might give Robsten a run for their romance.

    Here's a quick refresher:

In a futuristic world, a parasitic alien race called "Souls" invade human bodies and erase their personalities. Melanie Stryder's (Saoirse Ronan) body is inhibited by a soul known as Wanderer (Wanda for short) but Melanie refuses her captor's mind control.

Melanie then coaxes Wanda into the desert to find her uncle, brother and her boyfriend Jared (Max Irons), but in the process, Wanda begins to develop feelings for another human, Ian O'Shea (Jake Abel).

In case you got confused, here are the CliffsNotes: Jared is in love with Melanie, Melanie's body is inhabited by Wanda and Wanda is in love with Ian. You follow?

To which we say, dammit, Steph! You've officially out done the Twilight love triangle and created a love quadrangle full of supernatural twists and turns:

"Yeah, a love box," Abel laughs while explaining his nickname for the alien love saga to Entertainment Weekly. "Between my feelings for Wanda, the alien inside the body, and Jared's feelings for Melanie, the human who he's known, whom Ian has never known. Ian has only known this alien."

Uh, brainteaser much? For now, just remember this love box will soon explode on the big screen, and we must admit, our interest is certainly piqued for this flick. Forget Fifty Shades of Grey! Perhaps we should be drooling over The Host instead?!

But before we get carried away, let's remember this is a book penned by the perfectly prude Ms. Meyer, so we'll have to wait see whether it's really a sci-fi action flick, or a lame attempt at a complicated love story.

We're hoping for the former, and Jake has nothing but wonderful things to say about Meyer on set:

"The thing about Stephenie is that she's highly collaborative…And that's always so relieving as an actor, because we all want to bring something to the table, and we all understand that the film we're making is the writer's baby," Abel explained. "She's kind of the ghost on set anyway. Unless you go find her and have a conversation, she's not coming up to you to give you notes or change your performance. She's really, really great about that."

Sounds like things are off to a smooth start (at least much smoother than Twilight's beginning!) but we'll have to wait and see if this film can truly top Twilight's success.

What say you Awful readers? Will there ever be a more epic love story than Bella and Edward? Or will Rob and Kristen forever be the king and queen of eternal romance?
