Doctor Who is getting a new companion.

While it may be some time before fans really get to know this new pal, the BBC has released a new pic of the Time Lord and his next passenger.

So who is she?

Jenna-Louise Coleman will be joining current star Matt Smith on the TARDIS (that's the larger-on-the-inside police box that transports the characters across time and space, of course). While her role was announced in March, this is the first shot of Coleman and Smith in character.

It's unclear how she will come to replace current companions Amy Pond and Rory Williams (Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill), but the change-over promises to be a good one. Show honcho Steven Moffat said (and BBC America tweeted): "Amy & Rory will leave in a final encounter w/ the Weeping Angels in ep 5. Not everyone gets out alive & I mean it this time"

Of course, turnover on the show is a time-honored tradition. Five of the previous Doctors got together last weekend in England to swap stories, and fan favorite Tom Baker making news by saying he might like to make an appearance on the show.

If only for a time.
